Author Interview: Julia A. Royston

(1)  How did your life as a writer begin?

Writing came to me after going through a divorce in 1994. I started journaling as therapy. I didn’t realize what I was doing by journaling but I always felt better after I wrote. I wasn’t even writing about my situation, hurt feelings or anything just whatever popped in my head. I wrote it down.

(2) What makes you feel inspired to write?

Now, inspiration for writing will come from inside me or a question from a client or author. If there is a question, problem that comes to me, I usually write about it. On the other hand, God says, write about this and I write about it.

(3) How did you come with the idea for your current story?

I asked God about writing romance fiction and he said use your own life and embellish it and make it the ultimate love story for you.

(4) Tell us about your writing process. Do you outline, or are you more of a seat of your pants type of a writer?

I have done both. I started out totally writing what came to my head. No outline or guide, just writing. My business has grown and my time to write is shortened, I must write more focused than ever so an outline is a must. It saves time but it also doesn’t get me off course. I could expand some topics on my outline, but I don’t stray as much from the topic.

(5) What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?

In Jillian, my favorite scene is where Jillian and Byron are at a football game and faced with a little criticism. Please read that part, it is one of my favorites.

(6) What is your usual writing routine?

I write whenever I have free time, early in the morning, during lunch hour and late at night. If I am in my writing mode, i.e. have a deadline to get something done, I use every free moment to write. I make notes on napkins, scratch pads, send emails to myself and speak and record notes in my phone. I just have to get what’s in my head out.

(7) What is the highest goal that you desire to meet as an author?

To be able to have a demand for me to speak about my books and write meet the same financial level as my other aspects of my life so I can write, speak and coach writing full-time.

(8) What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

Three things:  Love it, Invest in it and Protect it with everything you’ve got.

(9)  How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?

I don’t have much free time but when I do, I love to travel, date nights with my husband and sleep. Lol.
